Skimmers
Now do you go for distance or for the number of bounces???
We can't help but do it... go down to the beach, find a suitable stone and wing it across the water. 'Skimming', as we know it, is also known as 'skipping'. Take a stone with a nice flat surface and throw it across a body of water in order to make it skim, skip or bounce on the surface as many times as possible before it sinks.
It's also known in the UK as 'Ducks & Drakes'. In the USA there is an Association of Stone Skipping and world championships are held each year in Scotland. Doubt that our skimming is up to that sort of standard... but we still have fun.
The world record is 40 skips.
Guess we've a lot more practising to do!
