Lobsters - catch or adopt?

We are really pleased to be the proud owners of our own lobster pot and are looking forward to a summer of catching one or two of the crustaceans off Silver Bay. But our anticipated pleasure has been brought into question when we read about an 'adopt a lobster' scheme set up by the National Lobster Hatchery - adopt a single lobster for just £2.50 and get choose a name for it and receive a certificate! You can adopt a whole family if you want, the money goes towards raising and releasing baby lobsters and they will let you know where your's have been released.
But are these really an endangered species in need of this kind of sponsorship. We can understand adopting a tiger or a white rhino… but adopting a lobster just doesn't seem right (especially when we are about to catch and eat them). What if you caught the one you'd adopted … "Hi Mum!!!"
